Deaf-Friendly Youth Activities Training Workshop

A workshop aimed at youth workers, leaders and coaches working with deaf children and young people. The event is free for Ambition member organisations. The session will give professionals and volunteers the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of deafness and practical advice, tips and resources to genuinely include deaf children and young people in their activities. This event is organised by the National Deaf Children’s Society, in partnership with Ambition.

A free workshop aimed at those that work directly with young people who would like to make their activities inclusive for deaf young people. It will also cover how to get deaf young people volunteering and participating in activities. This event is organised by the National Deaf Children’s Society, in partnership with Ambition. NDCS apprentices will be involved in the delivery of the workshop. A free lunch is included. Places are free to Ambition members, and their respective regional or local membership networks.

Learning Outcomes

Join us for this interactive, innovative and helpful training and gain the following:

  • An understanding of deafness including the different levels of deafness and the prevalence of deafness in the UK
  • The confidence to adapt activities to be inclusive of deaf children and young people
  • Awareness of how deaf children and young people communicate and their ability to use the finger-spelling alphabet
  • An understanding of the technology that deaf children and young people use
  • Awareness of the skills and qualities that deaf young people have to offer as young volunteers
  • Appreciation of how deaf young people might contribute to voluntary projects and understanding of how this helps all parties
  • Awareness of health and safety and additional implications for deaf children and young people
  • An understanding of NDCS and our services
  • Details of where to go for future support, advice and information
