Promoting healthy lifestyles

Community sport is at the heart of our youth club network and has been throughout our 90 year history. Trying new activities without the pressure of formal competition enables young people to connect with sport and become healthy and active at an early age.

Whether taught by qualified coaches or skilled volunteers, the relationships young people develop and the experiences gained, broaden their life skills.

Bridging the gap between formal education and community provision, Sport X-Change inspires young people to try new activities and to promote these to their peers. Funded by the Department for Education, it is proving highly effective for supporting disadvantaged young people to achieve.

Our current focus is on sport for development, looking at the longer-term benefits of sports programmes. We are piloting a programme with martial arts charity Fight for Peace delivering leadership skills through boxing to young people in Berkshire.
